Coco

Coco started shelter life in SB, moved to SM following the onset of seizures, and once they were under control, moved back to SB.

In diagnosing the cause of the seizures, tests failed to rule out pancreatic cancer. We began offering small feedings every couple of hours on a consistent basis and the seizures subsided. This further indicated that the pancreas is the culprit.

We cannot justify using limited resources to do further testing, surgery, aftercare etc. in the shelter. We don’t have the capacity to manage all the things needed and the shelter is not a conducive environment for healing.

We have some financial support for medical if he can be adopted or transferred to rescue. We also have a new offer of virtual behavioral/training support sessions.

We have tried 3x to place him into foster, but due to his young age coupled with the limited exercise he’s getting in the shelter, Coco easily becomes frustrated and overly excited, which turns into pretty intense jumpy/mouthy behavior. None of the 3 fosters felt safe.

So the challenge is that while Coco isn’t suffering right now, we do not have the resources to improve his adoptability in shelter, and we cannot just let him sit here dying a slow death. The longer it takes for him to get into a permanent home, the more likely that the cancer is metastasizing.

The deadline for Coco to exit the shelter is July 3rd. We understand that finding placement for a little bit of a challenging dog is hard anytime, and especially hard around a holiday, but we must also consider the large volume of animals that are coming in due to this holiday. The urgent dog team believes that Coco should have every opportunity to live a long and healthy life, but we cannot provide that inhouse.

Please come by SB Shelter to meet Coco, take him out of the shelter for an overnight, day trip, or to get to know him in order to market him. Attached is one pic, and you can see a public video plea our rescue director did a couple weeks ago: https://www.facebook.com/795936039/videos/1016277706566700/

Please help us network Coco and find him a place to have his best shot at making it.
